Who is Spirit of the Gulf Chorus?

The Spirit of the Gulf Chorus, located in Fort Myers, Florida, is a distinguished chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Since its inception in January 2001, the chorus has achieved significant milestones in the realm of a cappella barbershop harmony under the exceptional leadership of Deanna Kastler and Karen Breidert. As of December 2024, we celebrate the retirement of our founding director, Karen Breidert, and warmly welcome Gina Baker as she joins Deanna Kastler as our new directors.

The chorus has earned numerous honors over the years. Beginning in 2002, these accolades included over ten Florida State SAI Chorus champion medals and eight top-ten placements at Sweet Adelines International competitions. Notably, we have been recognized by audiences as the "Most Entertaining Chorus" on three occasions—more than any other chorus in the organization. Most recently, we were thrilled to achieve an Eighth Place medal at the International competition, adding to our legacy of excellence.
